The Washington Post's recently featured an article in it's Travel section about the Dismal Swamp area and the new Dismal Swamp State Park, which opened in April 2008.
by Amber Nimocks, details how the author fulfilled a lifelong dream to see a bear, "up close and personal".
She shares that although she has traveled to the Sierras, Maine, and Alaska's Denali National Park, she has never caught sight of the furry mammal... until her trip to North Carolina! Ms. Nimocks draws us into the history of the area, shares some advice from the State Park's rangers and dangles glimpses of the geo-tourism gems we are so proud of in our "swamp". She even shares in "Where to Go, What to Know", an addendum to the article, how to get here and some local eateries.
